My Remix Quilt is a very special one with a special story. Have you ever had one of those quilts that just spoke to you? You know the ones that are just begging to be made. That is how I felt the first time that I held Emily's book Geared for Guys in my hot little hands. I just knew I needed to make the odd ball quilt. (If you've been around here for any length of time, you've surely figured out that our family is full of oddballs.)
I found myself with a bundle of Emily's Shore Thing fabric and got this crazy idea. What if I made the odd ball quilt, but instead of all of the balls being the same except for one, all of the balls were different except for one. That of course doesn't make any sense, but if I could make all of the balls in the various Shore Thing fabrics and the odd ball could be something else. Something like a flamingo.
A big, pink, minky flamingo.
Within this past year, Lisa's daughter Emily was diagnosed with Brain Cancer. They had a benefit concert in Southern CA and I couldn't be there. That's when I knew that this "Shore Thing" quilt made from fabric designed by one brave Emily that battled cancer belonged to another brave Emily that is fighting a battle of her own.
We're quilters, it's what we do. When times get tough and we don't know what else to do, we make a quilt. I hope she likes it. If you would like to donate to the fundraiser to help with medical bills, you can reach Lisa at rally4emy@gmail.com.Be sure to stop by Crazy Old Ladies for the rest of the remix tour. You can pick up a copy of Geared for Guys at your local quilt shop or grab an electronic copy from Emily's shop.
