Why? Because they're interesting. They're important. They warrant several tutorial videos on the Leisure Arts YouTube channel.
And because I discovered that I've been doing some of them wrong, and maybe someone else has too. I'm not assuming that everyone has as much trouble with written explanations of stitches that I do, but I'm also not self-centered enough to believe I'm the only person who gets in the habit of knitting in ways that are simply wrong.
Or so I fervently hope and pray.
Ahem.
Knitting stitches together through the back loops twists them in a different direction than simply knitting them together.
I did not fully understand this until I watched the video for knitting three stitches through the back loops (K3TOGtbl).
Yes, of course I was knitting all of my decrease stitches through the back loops! What else would I be doing if not twisting every blasted stitch and forgetting that I can't knit normally to save my life?
I may still be a little bitter about the way the Lace with a Twist pattern from Knit Cowls looked a little off because I knit all of the K3TOG stitches as K3TOGtbl stitches.
| It was supposed to look like the cowl on the cover. It didn't. |
Fine, maybe I'm still a lot bitter.
I don't know of a lot of patterns that call for K3TOGtbl decreases, but I'm going to search them out now because this is a decrease I can do properly! If it's not your favorite, I understand. But at least now you know, and you'll be ready when a pattern does call for it.
Happy knitting!
