Purl three together through the back loops (P3TOG tbl) is not a common decrease method. Or, at least, it's not one I've seen mentioned very often.
Actually, I've looked through most of my pattern books and I couldn't find many patterns that instructed the user to purl three stitches together, and I couldn't find any that called for purling three stitches together through the back loops.
And that's why I think this is a pretty handy video to have in your YouTube favorites.
A quick Google search didn't turn up a lot of explanations for P3TOGtbl, and there were no other videos for it besides this one. Lucky you that this exists! And lucky me! Lucky knitters!
I've talked about how I tend to confuse myself with written instructions or photograph tutorials so much that I don't even want to link to the posts. So I won't. Let's just say that watching videos has helped me tremendously and I'm going to have this one saved just in case there comes a day I knit a pattern that calls for this technique.
Unlike knitting three stitches together through the back loops, which is fairly straightforward, purling three stitches together through the back loops is a bit trickier. So watch the video. Watch it several times. Here, I'll set it out again for you.
This is important! Don't you think so, too? I hope so, and I hope this helped. For more knitting tutorials, check out the Leisure Arts knitting playlist.
Happy knitting!
